Montville introduces 2026 budget with 2.67 percent levy increase

NJ MONTVILLE — Montville introduces 2026 budget with 2.67 percent tax-levy increase. The Committee approved the municipal budget with a 2.28 percent increase in municipal operations taxes and 6.55 percent increase in library taxes, yielding an average household increase of $58.48 and remaining $540,213 below the state levy cap. Major appropriation increases include $492,729 for health insurance reflecting a switch to the North Jersey Municipal Employee Benefits Fund and $547,085 for salaries and wages driven by contractual step increases.

The Committee adopted Ordinance 2026-12, authorizing $1 million from the Open Space Trust Fund for River Road facility cleanup, and Ordinance 2026-13, extending affordability controls on Longview at Montville units, and introduced Ordinance 2026-14, a $1 million bond ordinance for Water Treatment Facility engineering.
